Peace & blessings in the New Year!
I decided to create a blog that chronicles my transition to my healthiest self - physically and mentally. One of my girlfriends and I have coined 2009 as the beginning of "Project Fabulous" - they year that we do everything possible to feel fabulous. First order of business: HEALTH. They say great minds think alike? Well that notion was again confirmed when I started to tell my friend about how I think we should go raw and she and a friend of hers were talking about doing the same thing just the day before! We knew we were on the right track. So we decided to attend a free informational session on living/eating raw at Karyn's Raw in Chicago, where she talked about her raw background and experience, in addition to passing out samples of her recipes - YUM! After attending this event, we were pumped! My Project Fabulous mates are currently participating in Karyn's 30-day detox, I was not able to this time, but I started researching like a mad woman about the raw lifestyle and how to incorporate it into my life. My husband is always in favor of healthy eating, so I knew he would be just as excited as me. But, I was pretty worried about how my five-year old son would handle the change. Our family tried to be "healthy" eating on the SAD; however, we unfortunately are addicted to butter, salt, cream, etc. So on December 29, I began preparing raw meals, using some of the research that I had come across. Having previously owned/operated a small catering company, I still was a bit overwhelmed about how to change my culinary ways. So I just armed myself with recipes and techniques and jumped right in. It's been great! I am excited that most of what I have prepared tastes awesome! Unfortunately, my son is having a difficult time, but my husband and I just keep communicating with him about the importance of eating healthy. We'll see how it goes with him. My daughter is just eight months old, so by the time she begins eating ffood besides baby food, she'll blend in to our lifestyle nicely.
We are not committing to 100% raw, but at least 75%. Since seafood is my favorite food, I do not plan on giving that up. I am eating it much less, but I can't give it up 'cause I love me some skrimps!! HA! Also, I'm not getting hung up on organic just yet. There's so much to remember and incorporate that I can't mentally get frantic about making sure everything is organic. Hopefully by summer I can slowly incorporate that aspect. Also, I haven't worked with any supplements or superfoods, nor have I sprouted anything yet. I'm just trying to get the basics down. In the coming weeks I hope to get a dehydrator, high-quality juicer and blender. So hopefully by summer I will (and my family) be in this raw food thing full swing.
Until next time, love yourself and live healthy.
Peace,
T
